Swivel TV Stands

Swivel TV stands have been sold forever. They have been made since televisions had tubes and the channels were changed by hand. There was always a table with a central ball bearing that would allow the table to shift a little to the right or the left. With time the swivel tables changed and developed into many different shapes and sizes.  Today there is a swivel stand for every TV size available in the market.

Swivel TV stands are a great idea for a small room where you do not have the necessary space for a large television set. For example in a small student apartment where you almost don’t fit, a swivel stand will allow you to watch TV from almost any angle in the room. A very popular model which is a classic is the one that has the table below with a couple of doors where you can store movies or a VHS or DVD. On top of the table, you have a center rod with a ball bearing and two smaller bearings on the sides which help support the TV’s weight.

Today with television sets growing thinner and lighter you can find swivel stands in many modern and space age designs. Televisions change and so must the bases they are put and kept on. On this day and age you can even buy a swivel stand with a remote control to make it move and change position, not only will they turn to the sides but it will also move up and down. These stands are made so you can watch television from the best position possible. Whether you need to move it to move it out of the sun or so you can sit or lie down on the couch.

The swivel stand has nothing to do directly with the television set; it will not make it work better or worse. It is part of the room decoration and must match the other furniture in the room. Some of them are designed to be placed in the air in a corner or on the floor like tables. When they are placed on the wall in the air their movement is restricted to sideways and maybe a little up and down. The best position for them is on the floor where they have greater reach and can move for longer distances.

When buying one for your living room or den make sure that you don’t buy it just because it is nice and you like it, the piece must combine with the rest of the room and the general decoration in the area. Make sure when you buy the swivel stand that it is made of durable materials. If it is supposed to be wood, do not buy anything made of conglomerate or plywood. Use real wood which is heavier and will resist better your television set’s weight and the movement it will have.
 
Wood is better and looks better, unless the other furniture in the room is made of plywood or conglomerate the swivel stand would look terrible if it is not made of the same materials as the rest of the furniture in the room. Chose wisely when buying new furniture so you will have the perfect room when you are finished, do not buy something because it looks good, it must fit in with the rest of the room’s decor too.
